Went to one of my "well hit" spots today...Well, turns out it's not so well hit... I have a habit here of digging and carrying away all bullets and shot gun shells from this section of woods. The reason being, when I go back there and I start finding shells, I know I haven't completely covered that particular area. After about an hour I hit the 3 ringer and the 36 cal ball back to back, got a few shot gun shells too...so I started over this section very carefully.

In the middle of the trail I nabbed the black trilobite looking thing...turns it's really molded black glass in what might have been a ring mount. About six inches away I kept getting this weird clipped signal, having almost nothing left to dig, I went after it, thinking it possibly two metal items next to each other, one good one bad. I pulled up a clod of dirt and it contained the signal, broke the clod in half and saw shinny yellow...just about peed myself when I pulled out the the little gold pin marked 14K. Did the happy dance for a few minutes.

Not 2 feet away I got a 1905 injun too. Sadly, no silver. Oh well. Maybe next time. Funny how a worked over honey hole can keep surprising you..

Cool post dj! 8)

I really liked your chart of finds, it's very interesting.

Since I hunt mostly 19th century lumber camps my chart would be quite different.
