Today's Treasures, Torn from The Turf!

I hit a city park and an older school soccer field today, not expecting much but I seem to be always pleasantly surprised.

I found a boy's name bracelet in a baseball diamond, where the left field baseline meets the back fence. It has the name "Brent," and his birthday engraved on it. It is undamaged and bears the hallmark, "Kreister/Gold Electroplate/USA." That is correct, made in the USA!:headbang:

I later found a British Ten New Pence coin, dated 1968 on the soccer field. Not five feet from the coin, I got a solid 79 VDI on the ATPro (once again, in the Lincoln cent range...) and was pleased to pull a nice little sterling ring with a green stone mounted in it. The ring is marked .925 inside.

Two days in a row with sterling rings makes Sub a happy camper. :hello2: Thanks for looking and have a safe, fun Memorial Day weekend.

Sub 8-)

Thanks Evolution,
Not sure on the green stone, maybe a birth stone? It is not opaque like jade, so I am hoping a jewel and stone guru can pipe in and edjumacate me! Sub 8-)

Nice finds there Sub. You had me fooled until you said soccer field. You know Ozark Mountain Daredevils don't play soccer.

Lovely ring, silver is good but the stone makes it a even more savory finding my friend :blackbeard:

Here is some info on green gemstones.

Wonder if it could be Spinel ?

Your British 10 pence is a nice find, it's not the current 10 pence and is actually 25% bigger than the current 10 pence. It is the first 10 'pence' design, made when pennys were introduced. Nice find, definately worth more than face value.

Thank you CRM, That is a great reference site, and it is possible that the gem is spinel. This stone looks half dome in shape, so it is hard for my amateur eyes to tell, I will have to take it to a jeweler. Sub 8-)

Thanks Shipwrecks, It does have an older look to it and is bigger than a US quarter. The soccer field has produced some odd and assorted finds over the past three months. This coin being there is another example of a child losing something he should not have brought to school long ago...(I was that kid 45 years ago...don't check my pockets!!!) Sub 8-)

Hi Wheatfinder, Well, the birthday on the reverse is 1973, and the size of the bracelet would be appropriate for about a ten year old kid, which is also the average age for Little League players to play on that sized ball diamond, so I would be safe to say the bracelet is from the early 1980's. Not in too bad of condition for being underground for 30+ years! Sub 8-)
