Took the family out in the boat to a favorite spot on the river today. My daughter was walking the beach and came across the remains of a large bird. She said " Dad, there's some bones of a great big bird here and there's a metal band" Anyways, I looked t the band, and it had a 800# to call stamped on it along with a serial #. My son in law called the # while we were out there, and they asked him where it was found and his name & adress. They told him that the bird was banded in 2007 in Lola, N.C. They also told him they would send him detailed info on the bird and a certificate. Bird band 001.JPG Bird band 002.JPG

I found one a couple years ago and reported the number online, and they did indeed send an e-certificate... it was from a common bird around here but neat to get the information about when the bird was banded (1967 I think) and where it was banded (about 45 miles from here). Neat stuff!

ARRC was right. My son in law was e mailed the certificate today as he was the one that called it in. it was a brown pelican, to young to fly when it was banded on 6/26/07. Banded in Carteret County, in the town of Lola N.C. Carteret co. is next to Craven, which is the county where we live and were it was found.
