Hey y'all. I made my all time favorite find today. Hit an area vmiairpwr and I had hit hard during the winter. Snakes and mosquitoes have kept me away for a while though. Decided today I'd give it another shot though. Lately ive turned the discrim off and listened for lower tones that I might have passed up in the past. Got a low signal that was shallow so I popped out the plug and found this. My first revolutionary war button. Its a British 23rd regiment of foot. They participated in the siege of Charleston in 1780 and also served in several other battles in South Carolina against Francis Marion's patriots. By far my favorite find to date. Its in mineral oil now til I cane get it cleaned up a little better. Sorry for the not so perfect pics. Attached is another of what they look like in perfect shape. Thanks for looking. :headbang:

Nice going on getting the button and braving the skitters, that's a keeper for sure. It was a good thing that you turned the discrim. off so it allowed to hear the signal.

Awesome button! I do most of my detecting in Brunswick County - below Wilmington and have plenty of early sites but never dug a Revolutionary War military button. This would be one of my favorite finds if it was in my collection. Congrats!

Well...a little soap and water and briwax later...the feathers on the button have some more detail but the 23 is tough to read except with the right light and camera angle. Here she is all cleaned up and ready to be displayed in a frame along with a map and some .69 brown bess musket rounds found at the same site late last year. The 23rd regiment was also known as the Royal Welsh Fusiliers and they also participated in the battle of Lexington & Concord as well as Yorktown in addition to the Siege of Charleston in 1780.
