Found a Phoenix Button in Santa Cruz

Found a Phoenix Button from the Queens Regiment No.2 using my Minelab Safari. Coat Size about 1" across.

Nice find. These buttons date 1810 to 1820 and were originally made for Haitian forces. They later became surplus and were traded (in many cases) to Indians along the West Coast. Did you get any other early relics there or was this a random drop?

Thank you! Gotta love construction sites for fresh dirt! I was amazed when it popped out, I thought it was a clad quarter till I cleaned it up. It was down about 14" with a janky signal.

Yes, I found a cool early fork or spoon handle of heavy copper and a fired deformed musket ball.

My site is very close the the Santa Cruz mission so I think it was an Indian trade item from the late 1830's.

I think the late 1830's, so I think Spanish California colonial.

I found a "No. 14" about a year ago here in southern AZ...sent the info to Tom in CA here on the forum to forward to someone doing research/tracking of them.
It very well could be the only one found in AZ. Sure has a unique history!
