This wasn't even on my bucket list... military hat badge.

I got a great permission this afternoon while I was beeping my neighborhood street tear-out... small yard, house built in the 30's or so... very clean, only a few targets. I was cherrypicking the tones, looking for silver, I was rocking the 5X8 coil, only getting clad, the deeper targets are secured for another hunt... Lightning getting a lot closer, I called "one more keeper" then I doubled back to an earlier penny signal, or so I thought! While it was ringing up as a 75 - 76, it pinpointed bigger than a coin... on its side, this popped out of the hole....:headbang:

I am totally stoked about this find!

I have seen hat badges posted in the past, but I never expected to find one, and call it my own!

Very nice Military Item, think hat badges are my most favorite items. :occasion14: They do seem to get lost infrequently too, Pretty sure that I've only found three so far.

Nice badge, it's got me wondering though... Does it look like anything is broken off the top? I ask because it should have a wreath with 13 stars over the eagle, unless it's ROTC in which case it would have those letters in an arc over the top. It doesn'r look broken in your pic, but I really can't tell

Ummm. Yea, no clue!:laughing7: Anytime I pull a military item from the turf I chalk it up to WW2... been told it could be from 40's till current day.... so yea, definitely WW2!

Not broken t all... it was however dropped by the homeowner when I showed it to her...:BangHead: I was thinking. "yea, that's how you knock the dirt off of it" but yea, only parts broken are 2 of the 3 prongs on the reverse are gone... that's it.

It is likely brass, although it looks like copper... could be copper I guess.
