It seemed like everyone had their own idea about where I should spend my time today. This one's house, no that one's no, no, no, come over here! :dontknow:

Any of the trips was further than I wanted to go today. I was quite comfortable in my LazyBoy. ;) But, that soon got boring and since it was "my" day, I decided to just go do something that "I" wanted to do. ;)

Here's the results:

2015 (345).jpg
2015 (346).jpg

Mystery blob. Not lead, too hard. Not steel, non-magnetic, not
aluminum, too heavy. :dontknow:

2015 (347).jpg

Did I do it again!?!?!? In a word, no.
Just a rather nice, round, aluminum knockout. :dontknow:

2015 (348).jpg

Ahhh but there was a bit of a silver lining in my black cloud today.

It even says "sterling", spelled out inside. Pretty lil thang! :)

Oh! And that's two wheat toasts on the side. ;)

So, smiles all around!

Happy Father's Day everyone!

Nice hunt & finds and thanks for the Father's day wishes.

I was able to play music with my oldest son, hang out with my youngest and still squeeze in a late short hunt until dark. Only found some clad but it was still a great day all around.

Being a Dad is the best.

That blob looks a bit like silver, did you polish up the end? Might give it a scratch acid test. Could be a tin alloy that would be harder than lead. Nice sterling ring and some coin variety, you lucky guy ! :occasion14:

Actually, I "polished" it up with a great big ole file! LOL That's why I know it's too hard to be lead. I had some acid for testing silver but I think it must've gone bad somehow. It doesn't react the same on some old rings I'd tested before. :dontknow: Guess I'll figure a way, or just let it be a blob. :) It gave SUCH a GREAT signal and at 11 inches too!!
Was pretty sad when I finally saw it.

Thanks! I do seem to walk over a LOT of stuff! :)

Yep, the acids do have a shelf life. Don't ask me how long, but I have seen sellers on EBay talking about it.

I got rained out Sunday morn and family got the rest of the day.
I thought about going out today...lol! we had a tornado warning, so I guess.....I'll...wait. Lol!

Thanks! Ya know, this little ring just might be a bit more of a surprise than I was thinking. I don't know
maker's marks well but this might be an older one.

The ring is marked STERLING and has a circle with a "c" in it, (copyrighted?) and a maker's mark of what looks like a
dollar sign. Sort of, it is an "S" but with a line from the lower left up thru the "S" at an angle. :dontknow:

Anyway, yeah, a pretty nice day.

One of the threads a while back had a link to maker's marks on silver rings.

It does look older just from the design detail, it has sculpted depth to the design, instead of the flat cookie cutter versions of today.
