This ring was dug among the Hibernia,kg iii,kg ii coins and musket side plate. It was just as deep. Not sure if it dates the same but I can't find the matching marks on it anywhere. Seems solid gold but had possibly copper once in the groves of the designs. The mark is a crown then anchor then 14 then crown again. Any help would be appreciated. Seems crown was for gold and anchor for Birmingham and maybe 14 the fineness possibly?

Maybe it's not a ring at all, but a leprechaun's bracelet. Was there a rainbow nearby? :laughing7: Very cool looking, worth more than its weight in gold for sure!

I'd go with it being Rose gold so that give the ring that colour over a yellow gold that most are use in seeing, as far as why the greening it may very well be from the lessor alloy that was used in the ring. Either way it's a really nice piece and congrats on the find.

Because its a fake made-up hallmark. Its gold plated.

At first I was think gold filled or something. The hallmark is strange. I dug lots of plated stuff and this seems different. Besides the outside green spots it seems all gold from the inside out. I'm no expert though! Haha

Also I dug many plated jewelry around my area and none or them held up very well like this ring did if it is plated. It is more shiny in person. I'm open to it being plated though if it is what it is. I'm fine with that! [emoji2]

Now I'm a rookie here, so bear with me. If that ring was plated would the maker even bother to stamp the fineness number in it?
Just askin'.
I'm really curious now.

I've seen rings stamped 18K that never had any gold alloyed, that is why they are called counterfeit.

You have it in your hand, so you have a better chance than me of knowing. What I can say is that the 'hallmark' looks fishy. Its not a British Hallmark, so look to other European countries, good luck.
