My in-laws live in a very historic part of Albany, NY and have always dreaded heading over to visit, until yesterday. Turned on to their street to find an amazing sight, construction workers ripping up sidewalk. I nearly **** myself. I was so excited to finally get a shot at detecting my first sidewalk tear up. Luckily I had my detector, i try to bring it everywhere i go even if I don't plan on detecting, you know, just in case. There is still more to do as today as i type this they are ripping more and more up.

Here's what I got so far, decent haul for an hour on a sidewalk.

I think this is a 70's gold dipped mail carrier button, not 100% sure though.

I'm not far from Albany and i used to live there (Delaware avenue) I always wondered if if Washignton park had anything good in it. Have you been there?

Yeah hit it once for a few hours, it's loaded with pull tabs and trash. I'm sure you can pull gold and maybe an old coin or two that has been missed but good luck the trash is unbearable there :(

Edit: College kids are litter bugs :D

I would be excited about those finds. Two silvers and a fat IHC... plus three newer IHCs. Good show.

nice finds, love the mercs. Re; Washington Park, I have hit a certain park for over 3 years now, this year I am hitting it with the ATGOLD running in disc 2 and iron audio on, it's noisy but I'm bringing up coins late 1800 to early 1900 in the same areas I've already hit. The iron audio really separates them out. HH

You know talking to the local water dept. helped me locate a dump site that they dump all the dirt when they dig out under streets to fix water main breaks. Got permission and found quite a few goodies there, i go once a week or so and have always found a 1800's coin every time, sometimes 2! lol.

What a great idea! I had never even thought about sidewalk tear-outs until I joined this site a few months ago. I am frequently checking the city board for construction locations and keeping my eyes peeled but haven't done one yet. Great finds and just makes me more determined to do one. Add the dump sites to the list now too!

Congrats and happy hunting.
