Was a slow last few hunts . Not really looking for new permissions but actually enjoying the challenge of snooping goodies out of old spots that have been pounded by me and everyone else within 100 miles with a detector . At least it seems like it sometimes . Total for the last five low and slow, TTF dig everything repeatable hunts is as follows . 20150708_145045.jpg
$3.40 in clad going to the roll it and buy silver fund . 20150708_145115.jpg
6 wheats including a 1924, 1939, 1942 , 1944 , 1949 , and a 1951 . A 1920 Buff ......actually has a date that's unusual for me . 20150708_145835.jpg
And what has to be the worst looking most beat up. thin Barber Dime that I have ever seen . To top it off I slashed it pretty bad across the back when I was trying to chop it out from underneath a root . 20150708_145641.jpg 20150708_145759.jpg
Got a couple of Eagle Buttons and some sort of Eagle figure cut out of metal 20150708_145410.jpg
A neat toy bus , other buttons , a old lighter , sash weight, the list goes on and on . Nothing ground breaking or breath taking but im pretty proud of being able to get these goodies out of the spots I have been hunting because I know the hours I have put in there myself swinging not to mention everyone else . 20150708_150341.jpg 20150708_145612.jpg 20150708_145600.jpg 20150708_145527.jpg 20150708_145438.jpg 20150708_145243.jpg 20150708_145102.jpg

46Wheat , You had a good day out ! I think the find is the circa 1930's -40's "Indian Deco" Thunderbird item !
A couple of questions - What does the metal appear to be ? (copper , brass ?) Does the piece have any traces of
attachment points on the reverse side ? (ie. for a pin or bolo tie ) I would actually clean the surface of that piece
the polished high ground in contrast to the incuse stamped design areas will be quite attractive . The piece is the sort
of item that was sold in curio shops along the railroad station hotels in the Southwest - New Mexico , Arizona ,
Southern California etc. This was part of a massive marketing of all things Native American to the wealthy and
middle class Eastern tourist of the period . For a lot more examples of this sort of piece Google Fred Harvey era
jewelry . Nice Finds !

(one more bit - the bird is a Decorative derivation of Navajo style - This is an "Anglisized" or white man's version
of a native cultural/spiritual icon - for consumption by white buyers . I don't use the word white here to invoke
any sort of negative racist implications , this was a caricature kind of imagery .)

Very nice 46W! I am liking that cool toy bus... something about toy cars just gets me going.

Way to teach that Barber a lesson, hide under a root? Take that!

Well done.

Now that you say that the attachment points on the reverse make perfect sense . Its a bolo tie clasp . It appears to be brass but its toned more like tarnished silver

There were odd silvery alloys used at that time in ornamental metal work - such as "German Silver ", and "Nickel Silver"
neither of which contain any silver - it could be one of those .

Good hunts. My favorite is the bus. Very neat looking. I agree with Argentium...first thing I thought was "Thunderbird" when I saw the bird. Nice finds.

I thought the smaller spoon was silver when I first pulled it because it shined up so quick . But it is Oneida Silversmiths silver plated
