Title pretty much covers it! A bit of old Mexico in SW Missouri. I hit my new favorite TRE (target rich environment) school yard yesterday in the 105 degree heat. I took Carolina Tom's advice and kept hydrated and shaded. I could not make one pass on the large, rectangular lawn without digging several coins and/or oddities. (This after hitting the lawn several times!)

The favorite finds of the day were the large (7 grams) sterling earring with turquoise inlay earring, marked "Mexico .925" , a Mexican $10 Peso coin, a peace sign decoration, and a Marlin Firearms key. Also excavated $6.00 in clad for the charity fund. Thanks for looking, happy hunting to all and stay hydrated! Sub 8-)

I can't imagine wearing an earring, let alone a 7 gram one! :)

Nice job!

Unless I'm mistaken, that 1992 10 peso is a bi-metallic with a 5.604 gram Sterling Silver center. Nice finds!

Wow, Plumbata, I did not know that. The center of the coin is has heavy patina. I will research that, thanks.

I'm pretty sure those 1990s sterling bi-metallics were some of the latest circulating silver coins in the world, learned about them when trying to pin-down when silver coins stopped being used as a normal medium of exchange. Wouldn't mind finding one of the 50 peso examples.

Plumbata is correct. The internet says: "...The inner part consists of 5.604 g of .925 silver..."

That is a sweet coin Sub! That earing is also nice... and big. I'd say that you had quite a nice day, despite the heat.

Glad that you were able to stay reasonable cool (ie: avoided heat stroke), AND find some treasure. Very well done, congrats.

Plumbata, I looked at the date on the 10 Peso coin with a loop, it is 1998. Is that a date issued with silver, or did they go to copper or nickle then? Thanks, Sub 8-)

Oh darn, if it's a 1998 then it would be a base metal center AFAIK. Sorry about that, looked like a 1992 to me.

Dang, that coin looked like it had a silver center to me. I was getting all excited...

Still a nice coin though.

Easiest way to find out if ur 10 peso coin finds have the silver center is to look at worded amount if it says " Diez Nuevos Pesos" its silver minted from 1992-1994, if it says " Diez Pesos is not silver minted 1996 or after
