Found a 1930's Stevens cap gun at my 1940's whiskey bottle dump!

This was an eyeball find that was mixed in with the hundreds of broken whiskey bottles at this dump. It's a 1930's Stevens .25 JR cap gun! It was a little grungy, so I hit it with a wire wheel and then soaked it in citric acid. Then I soaked it in mineral oil until I freed up the cap door panel. I think it came out pretty nice!

Have to wonder if this was for show at the bar to keep the rowdies in line! It's heavy (7 ounces) and looks realistic to me. That's the only explanation I can come up with, since it's the only toy I've found at this dump.

Here's a few pics:

Nice find. I'd throw that bad boy in a tub, and do some electrolysis on it. Probably take awhile, with the amount of rust though.

Nice find! A similar cap gun was unearthed by a member here last week.

Lucky kids back then, modern toys break after just a few days, this thing is still intact even after 80 years outside :laughing7:
