Actually, these are the finds for the last two days. Been a good two days...and the weather has been super!

I'll have to try to pretty her up. Lots of good detail. Just a bit crusty lookin'.

Gotta keep diggin' those nickel signals!:icon_thumright:

This is probably my favorite find this weekend because of it's local historical ties.

080115TokenF.jpg

This token also has local historical ties. Just not sure what they are. I can make out Colon, Mich. (Yes, there really is a Colon, Michigan). The token is one of those lightweight aluminum (?) ones. Not sure how to try to clean it. Will probably throw it in the tumbler to see if I can get the rest of the inscription to be readable.

Weekend digs...

1847 Large cent
1868 Shield Nickel
1912 V Nickel
1917-S Mercury dime
(5) Indian Head Pennies 1868, 1875, 1883, 1894, 1898
1945 Wheatback penny
Watch fob from S.B. Emmons, Mendon, Mich.
Token from (?) Colon, Mich.
Tiny flat button, Rich Color Backmark
Amber colored marble with a frosted finish. I am assuming this is a bit older. They didn't look quite like this when I was a kid.

That fob is great and could possibly date as far back as 1850 is my guess. Let us know what you find out on it.

Nice! So would the highway running from Athol, Massachusetts to Athol, Idaho run through Colon, Michigan?

I don't find that token listed but when you can read the wording, I'll check with the guy who is working on a new Michigan token book. It looks like it ends with "SHOWS" so I wonder if it was used by some traveling circus or the like. Colon, MI is "the Magic Capital of the World", so perhaps there is a connection.

If you do tumble it, be careful and don't let it go too long.

Great hunt maybe if you tried electrolysis on the token it could help just keep a close eye on it

I'm impressed that someone from Idaho would know that Colon is the Magic Capital of the World. I figured we just keep telling ourselves that so that we would believe it. Or maybe you're just good with google. I agree with your supposition that the word "SHOWS" also appears, so you may have hit the nail on the head. I will have to try to get the thing in the tumbler soon.
