Walked onto the site turned on the F22 and started swinging. This was in my first hole. I don't know what it is yet but I'm pretty sure it's old, silver and hand engraved. I'm sure someone can tell me what it is pretty quick. I can't complain about my silver coin drought with finds like this one though

EDIT: This has been identified. It's called a Pomander and here is a link to more info and a similar piece

I think it's called Katalina jewelry. They incorporated a bell and shaker into the design. I've seen some from the '50's that are similar, but yours does look older. I'm sure someone here will know...they know everything about anything!!

Love the silver hand engraved item. I have no idea what it was used for but it could easily pre-date the Civil War. I could also very well be a Banner Find once we get an ID on it. Lovely item!!

There appears to be a line around the middle of it in the last picture- does it open - if so it may be some kind of a sensor ,
for incense or perfume or something - the openings on the end suggest this to me .

Wow, look at the holes in the bottom in the shape of tears. The craftsmanship is stunning. Thanks for posting the new pics. As far as I'm concerned this is a Banner find and once we get an ID I hope it will easily make it up there. Simply beautiful hand engraved piece of OLD silver sir!

Good call on the lines. It unscrews into four sections. Wow

A mystery wrapped in a mystery! :laughing7: Anything inside each of the four sections? I wonder if it assembles in an alternate fashion.

Nothing inside and it is not hollow each section is its own little compartment with only the bottom piece having the holes

I was thinking a tea steeper (which can come on a chain - like the top attachment for your thingawhatsit), but it may be too small?

It could be some other random scent thing off of a chatelaine. They had all sorts of weird attachments.
