I got out for a 4hr. park hunt in Toronto on Friday and found an interesting Lands and Forests buckle keeper! I’m thinking it dates to the 1930’s, but I’m not sure, as I could find no other examples of it online. I did a 6’ circle grid around the area where I found the buckle keeper, but alas, it wasn’t to be. As you all know from my posts, I’m not a huge fan of detecting inner city parks due to the amount of trash that comes along with them! :tongue3: However, this park is located close to Lake Ontario in an older section of town that saw settlement back in the 1930’s. The area that I was detecting was about 300’ from the main area of the park near a public garden, in fact, I used to play and ride my bike here when I was a kid.

I also found a silver 1964 CDN Quarter a silver Rosie, a ‘33 CDN Penny and a ’53 Wheatie! I’ve found Barbers and Mercs before, but never a Seated or a Rosie. I also found over $7 in pocket change for my efforts! :laughing7:

History - The Department of Lands and Forests, 1920 - 1972 was a department of the Government of Ontario based under the Ministry of Natural Resources. Before 1920, it was known as the Department of Lands, Mines and Forests, 1906 - 1920; The Crown Lands Department, 1827 - 1905 and the Office of the Surveyor General (Upper Canada), 1792 - 1827.

I’m thinking I might head back there again on Monday, just in case the buckle tongue is lurking nearby. :icon_scratch:
Also wanted to let everyone know that I’m having arthroscopic surgery on my left knee on September 3, so I’ll likely not be able to swing a detector again until October.

Thanks for looking,
Dave

Cool coins & great buckle Dave. I don't coin hunt much but we do find Canadian coins here in Tennessee. WTG, Q.

Thanks very much Quindy, I appreciate you taking the time to post.
I don't coin hunt very often myself, but when the fields are covered in crops I have to get my fix somehow! :laughing7:
Dave

Fantastic digs!!! I would love to find a buckle like that!

Thank for your post Dave, keep cool my friend!

Nice finds! Congrats on the silver and finds!
I wish you luck on the surgery, micro surgery heals a lot faster than reg surgery.
I can get out and around and my finds aren't as good as yours!

Thanks very much for your well wishes MsBB!
You don't give yourself enough credit BB, you're a good detectorist and you're making some very cool finds! :hello2:
Dave

Dave,

I really like that buckle--I think it displays very well. Really great find! And of course best wishes on the surgery my friend!! Please drop me a line and let me know that everything went well as I'm quite sure it will!

Thanks for your post and for your support Eric!
I'm sure I'll be back and detecting by mid-September, I just have to be positive about it.
Dave

Big congrats on knocking that Rosie off the list lol! The Seated will be next I'm sure. The buckle is pretty neat, I hope you can find its mate.

Finding a 'Seated' would be amazing, I don't think many of us here in Canada can make that claim! :icon_thumright:
Except maybe you buddy! :laughing7:
Dave

Sweet hunt!!

That buckle is cool and silvers always make for a good hunt!!
Thanks very much deershed! :occasion14:
Best of luck to you,
Dave

Haha thanks. My one Seated is barely more than a smooth slug, but hey it's technically a Seated so I won't complain lol. Definitely a tough find for us Canucks

I did try to find the missing tongue, but without success. I also went back yesterday morning but it was just too darn hot by 11:30am and all i could manage was 1.5hrs out there.
I'm heading back tomorrow morning armed with 3 frozen bottles of water, in the hopes of searching the area more in depth!
Best of luck to you Steve,
Dave

At least you've found a Seated, my oldest US coin to-date is an 1891 Barber Dime! :laughing7:

Awesome, like that buckle...

Thank you Sir! :icon_salut:

Thanks buddy! :laughing7:

Yeah, it cleaned up pretty nice, still amazed at the amount of gilt left on it.

Take care my friend,
Dave

Really well balanced hunt. That buckle is pretty cool.
Good luck with the pending surgery.

Thanks very much for your post ATW!
I too am a huge fan of Bob Seger, his band's music got me through high school! :laughing7:

Best of luck to you,

Good luck with your knee, love your pix and great finds. Someday I'll be up in the water on Lake Ontario. When my son was younger I towed a 20 ft Aquasport up 7 hours to Sackets Harbor in NY. The water is so clean, I would love to hunt up around there.

Thanks for your post and for your comments brad! The water in Lake Ontario hasn't always been that clear, we have a serious problem with Zebra mussels in the lake. They clear the water of algae, the down side is this also allows more sunlight to hit the bottom of the lake which in turn warms up the water. This then affects the fish that live here and reduce their food sources. :tongue3:
I've been through Watertown and Sackets Harbor, loved the look of the Sackets Harbor Battlefield Site... apparently two battles were fought near this location during the War of 1812
when the British attacked
