Got up early and headed out to the church site that I hunted a week ago or so back. I knew there still had to be a few good ones laying around the underbrush so I put a serious 8 hrs of bush/brush crashing to get what I got for keepers. Once again the place didn't disappoint me, but there was some dry periods of just swinging around the site without a good target to be had. I haven't even gorton close to the the actual church yet as all the scraps of roofing tin seems to be around where the building sat. So I stayed a good 75-100ft away before I even attempted to detect. So I got a couple of 1940's pennies followed by the 1920, then came the 1904 Fish Scale /5 cent piece, and then the 1903 quarter. Then I found the stove door just peeking out of the leaves, at the bottom of a rock embankment that ran up from the back of the site. It took some persuading but it came out all in one piece and I packed it back to the truck as this one was going home with me. Here's a link about the history and the period that they mfg. the stoves.

The surprise of the hunt was the "Bouquet Sous" Token that were struck in 1837 and before, and this token and the 1859 LC predate the site as it's mid 1880's so these coins must of being around still in circulation, but still it's great to get unexpected older coinage any day. I got the 1888 LC and the 1920 LC from the same area as the /59. I wanted to get a dime today and had to settle on the 1937 and also the 1937 nickel from another area.
Overall it was a pretty good hunt and I'll keep it now for a back up in the late fall or spring when the undergrowth is down.

I was out for a couple hours and the heat kicked my butt, no way I would have stayed out there 8 hours. Then again, if I was finding some Awesome finds who knows?
The old coppers and token are Sweet!! And I'd have taken the stove piece home too.

Great coin haul Jim and looking forward to eyeballing the stove pics. I also find many old pieces to be quite intriguing, including bottles and marbles.

There's a real mix of detecting from dead trees so I have to knock off all the dead limbs that around the trucks to get close to the trees, then in other areas that are exposed to light the weeds are 4ft high, then getting a shovel into the soils is the biggest challenge as it's rocky, and full of roots. The roots run along the ground looking for a soft spot where the target and more cases than not under the root. The quarter was in between two larger ones luckily!

If you're going to put in 8 hard hours, at least you were very rewarded! Super finds, the two Edward silvers would make my day.
