older silver...
different spot today
water was not calm as I would have liked - viz was horrible
could only see the white wing nut on my coil support - with my mask on
I mention this because if conditions were better - I would have done even better
lot of silt in the water and current was pushing me off targets now and then
first coin was stand lib quarter - so that made me feel good
lot of the other silver was down foot - foot and a half
silver ring was way down - barely gave a signal - fanned bunch of sand to make sure I even had a reading
rechecked and got a whisper - was hoping I had a gold when I look in scoop thru the cloud of sand and silt
and saw ring
marked sterling - so its an older one - relig. medal was a "big" surprise - its huge and also an older
one - marked sterling also
2 sil. quarters
8 sil.dimes (5 mercs - 3 sil.roos.)
buffalo nickel
sterling ring
sterling medal

Thats a lot of silver in 1 morning!

Can you explain what you mean by older with the Sterling mark?

that medal was found in an area with the older coins - here in USA - they stopped making stuff marked sterling
like about 40 yrs ago (now everything is 925 to follow the rest of the world)
- coins I found near it are from mostly the 30s and 40s - with the crust it had on it
was from at least that time frame Im thinking (I been at this since 1975 so Im pretty knowledgeable on the age of stuff)
plus its made better than a lot of the more recent stuff
the ring is an older design too also marked sterling - found close to 1 1/2 feet down - also found where I have found older gold and older coins
think it is 40s or 50s

OK, but sterling was used on lots of non-US made items, & i have no idea when each country started & finished using that mark.

Wow! Awesome hunt! I haven't had a water hunt anywhere close to that. But, I'm going to the coast for 3 days this weekend. Hopefully this will my turn! HH

any day with more than 5 silvers is a great day and you did that with dimes alone! Great job!
