So I had to use some vacation days this week. I really had no plans to detect since it was going to be 90. I woke this morning and it was 60 so I figured as long as I'm gone before 12, it shouldn't be too bad. I left around 840 and got to my spot at 910. I've come here 5 times before looking for this cellar with no luck. I know on a map of 1888 its already gone and sits next to a road( that's gone) along a river. I decided that if I walk along the river, I might find it. The area has roots, rocks and sticks all over , tough to walk over ( even if you're not a clutz). So what happens next??! Within 5 minutes I trip , start to fall and ( so I don't crush it) let go of my detector. I look up to see it go flying into the river. I don't think I've run that fast in awhile. Luckily, the river is low and it got stuck on some rocks near the shore. Waterproof, yeah. It actually felt good when I put the headphones back on. I turned around and there was the road and the cellar! It was getting hot now and I said one hour and I'll come back. Within a minute ...a tombac. Not exciting but my first button in almost a month so that made my day. Then I got this loud hit and dug up this item that looked like a thick coat hanger. Next was a screamer that said 3 inches. After 6 inches , I figured it was a hoe or shovel but I saw this big , round thing. Pull it out, a HUGE Crotal bell. I'm happy and done. I say one more minute. I get another high hit. Its another wire thing except its connected to a piece of pottery. I think its a whale oil lamp base or something similar. You be the judge:)

Congrats on finding the cellar hole and that awesome crotal bell! I've only found brokens, never a complete one. Does the piece of pottery have threads inside of it? If it does it could possible be some kind of porcelain insulator. Good luck on your next trip there, could be a very productive spot!

I love seeing those old bells come out of the ground intact. So often they are broken in about 5 pieces.... You saved a nice one!

Hope you find some more goodies on your next trip to the site!
