Had a long day at work today. Yes I do work! Lol
Talked to Scrappy about coming down and swinging with me on this field that was mowed. Well I het there and it was not mowed!
I tols Scrappy to meet me at the 1700s tavern. When I get there he is coming out of the woods with bottles in his hand! He says to me there is all kinds of things in the woods, old foundation bottles..
I said I KNOW!!!!! LOL.
Anyway he talks me in to going in there to hunt. I really wanted to wait till Fall, because of the ticks. Anyway We go in and its pretty thick, kind of tuff to swing.
I get this great high tone. And say Steve this is a good one. He comes over, ( really glad he did) because im hacking away in the hole and he screams stop!!!! We look down and see a big silver. I pull it out and im shaking saying what is it???
Well its a German 3 thaler. From Prussia! !
This area was a big battle in rev war.
The battle of Whitemarsh. And there was British and Hessian soldiers camped here back in 1777.
This coin I believe fits in that time frame..
Thats my story and I'm sticking to it. Lol.
Thanks Steve for stopping me before I killed another coin.
Thanks for looking
George

Jeepers George, that coin is ridiculous. I'm glad Steve hollered at you before you sliced it up haha! That would have been a heartbreaker. I have to think that's banner material right there, I have never seen that coin before. You are having a reeaaallly good year haha, big congrats on another killer find!

I remember you said it was a whisper on the Deus, how deep was it?

Once found a colonial era silver French Centime in an area twice camped by General Rochambeau (on his way to and from Yorktown).

Why not a Prussian coin in a Hessian camp location?

Nice find.

Thanks Mike,
Its been a incredible year! Im glad Steve stopped me also. Lol
Not really sure how deep it was?
Maybe 7 or 8 inches. I was hacking away and it came up with one of the scoops. You know the deus in are settings, if its a wisper it could be 6inches or 12inches. Lol.

Wow George! I feel like a broken record commenting on your finds lately. That coin is amazing. First one I've ever seen or heard of. Its a big colonial silver and I'm voting that one up top. Awesome job man.

The real story is I saw George sprinkle fairy dust and ground up four-leaf clover over the hole before the coin appeared.
Hahaha Thanks for the trade secret Steve. So that's how he's pulling this off!

Awesome find! I think your right on the money with the origins for the coin given the history of the area. It's clearly the most likely scenario. Congrats! :icon_thumright:

Thanks STC,
Dont know if its true???? But it sure fits the time frame and wear on the coin. There was some German settlers around that time also so, will never know.
