This year has been hard on our numbers but good on quality. We lost all our best Roman Sites to direct drilling of Oilseed Rape. This Metal Working Site is our best option right now but maybe drilled any day soon, so yesterday I left work early & Dad & I did another 3 hours 15 minutes.
I estimate about another 7 man hours until I can finish the Northern gridding of the site (mostly beyond the outer scatter).

11 Roman Coins
3 Roman Brooches
1 Celtic Brooch

Found a nice Button I can't ID, at first I thought Victorian Police, but it maybe Military. The backmark dates it to 1850-1900. Whatever it is (feel free to have a go), its one I have not got or seen & therefore my pick of the day. (Great condition with shank as well)

Thanks, we were secretly hoping for a silver, the bronze ratio was high enough after the last 3 hunts.

Great finds Cru. Quick question...

What would one of those scrappies buy way back when they were in use? I know it's probably not a question that can be answered but I'm just wondering if they would just buy a candy or a loaf of bread etc.

I think my ex used to say the same. I don't talk about work after I leave the office door. So in answer to your question, as little as possible.

Many of the tiny late 4th C types were weighed in small bags & never counted, so worth very little. Think of them like stinking lincolns.

It doesn't happen all that often & if I can't field ID it then I research it at home. But pulled a blank on a 30 minute look, & its not worth more time than that to me. It maybe sorted in years when I flicking past other stuff.
