Think I found another campsite... This new spot is about hundred yards away from where I found lots of other spoons, a crossed cannon insignia, and a gimlet last year. I'm thinking this area was a military camp site at some point in the early 1900s. Today's hunt turned up lots of spoons, suspender clips, a pocket watch. And at least one or two pieces of pottery in each hole I dug. Think one of the spoons is Sterling. Also, a chicken of the woods! Today's finds were dug in an area the size of a king size bed.

Great job! Why is it that spoons are found more often all other eating utensils?

I didn't know that! I figured they brought their own... No knives or forks. Wonder what kind of gathering could have taken place where so many people were using only spoons? I assumed campsite...

Some of the spoons have names engraved in them. That's also what made me think military.

Nice spot, that is strange how it's all spoons. Maybe a site of a soup convention. lol Seriously though, should be something else hiding in there to clue you in on who was there.

A site with lots of spoons often means there was a piggery there at one time. Spoons were often thrown out with the garbage by mistake and the garbage was collected and fed to pigs. I have detected at 3 such sites and I cannot tell you how many old spoons I have dug !:laughing7:

It usually is always a spoon but this year, for me, I have 5 forks and one knife and only two spoons. Still looking for that sterling one. Two this year are marked nickel silver but if there's any silver in them red oxided sticks, I'd be amazed.

Jeff H...why would only spoons be accidently thrown out? They only use spoons and no forks or knives at piggery's? Just curious.

Suspenders clips are worth a photo, love to see them

Here is a photo of the suspender clip. I'm glad you mentioned a photo of the suspended clip because when I went to clean all my smaller items for the photo I found a piece of small sterling!
