These finds are from a few different places I've detected recently. Still getting used to the Deus - I've been going back to a few places I've hunted before.

First is the nice gold plated button with a very legible backmark, and the 1963 dog tag. Those were found at an 1830s house I've detected 2 or 3 times in the past.

The next few finds were from a yard I recently secured permission to detect, from about 1820. I know for a fact someone else has detected before (and found some good stuff) but wanted to see if he missed anything. Sure enough, I dug an 1857 flying eagle in the front yard (my second one!) in fairly decent condition. I was pretty happy with that. Also came across a flat button and a silver war nickel, and a wooden pocketknife.

Finally, I've been going back to a house site...not sure how old. I've been turning up bricks and some old pottery, so I think the site has some age to it. Nothing too great here, got an older padlock and another flat button..Has a nice script backmark....BEST STRONG and STAND in small letters.

Thanks for looking!

Thanks all. Not sure how much more I'll be able to clean the flying eagle, it's pretty corroded. I tend to like leaving a little dirt on coppers to bring out the details.

Congrats on the excellent finds! That Flying eagle is in really good shape- don't see them looking like that very often.

You had a great hunt.
That Flying Eagle is in really good shape.
If I find a way to silence all these steel bottle caps,
I will use my Deus more often.

Great finds! Nice Flying Eagle... and flat buttons are always fun to dig. I've dug two FE's and no Fatty IHPs... somethings wrong with that. ha I just got a Deus last week and took it out this weekend for the first time. Its different, but I think I'm going to like it a lot. I also used a V3i for a couple years and I like how much simpler the Deus is... but you still have a lot of options.

I also switched from the v3i to the deus. I have to admit there were some things I liked better about the v3i but do appreciate the simplicity and weight of the deus. Feel like I really need to keep working with it to get some more depth on coins and such...

A few folks have suggested creating a program immediately next to the one you're using but change the frequency. Make the whole program identical to the first but make the second one with 4 kH instead of 11.7 or 17.8. Good stuff always has a drop in VDI with drop in frequency, but iron garbage goes the other way (stays high or goes even higher). Metaldetectingworld.com has a full chart on the Deus with over 100 items and their VDIs to show what happens in all 4 frequencies. I know it really got me thinking, so now I check the signal in 4 kH.
