My first bottles, and some neat buttons, a Barber dime.

Was hiking through the woods today, so out of the norm for me. Lol
Came across a bottle dump. A big one. I have 0 knowledge of bottles but I thought they were cool.
Come to find out they are late 1800s early 1900s. (Thanks Steve of pa, and Bill D) There are so many, and it looks like there could be older ones underneath.
Aftet I carried a few out, I went to another site and did some detecting.
Thats were I found the buttons and Barber..

Well I'm glad you got out for a leisure stroll and a little detecting. I'm liking that button with the heron or crane...

When I was a kid I used to go with Dad looking for bottles. I remember he had a book he bought back in the early 70's probably that listed and showed valuable glass. I just liked getting out and digging even back then. If you start bobbing in the water, you'll have it all covered!

Great finds and looks like a lot of fun Vino! I like that brass oil lamp a lot. Even if the stuff is more modern than you want, they still display well and I bet its fun looking for them. Also, that pelican button is pretty sweet.

The green turn mood wine bottle is always a nice find, I can't make out the embossed brown bottle that one looks very interesting, a better picture or just tell us what's written on the bottle and how far does the seam run up the neck/lip of the bottle if you could. Seams are a pretty good ID at putting a bottle into a certain date period, and if you were picking these off the surface it would be a return visit to see what's down below in the dump.

Those are great pieces of glass. I would seriously go back and get every single one of them. But I have an affinity for beautiful glass things.

I really want to get in the bottle digging and I cannot find any locations yet. I got to take one hobby at a time I guess

The brown one has a flower and vines on it.
There is alot on top and a whole lot more under I suspect.

That button definitely has a pelican on it, if it wasn't a 1 piece I'd be thinking maybe Louisiana CW...searching to find a match

Nice buttons George. As for the bottles, most look like ABM (Automatic Bottle Machine) bottles that are post 1903 or so. Also the ones without seams are turn mold bottles, that was common with wine bottles in the late 19th and early 20th century. Even though most of your bottles appear to be post 1910, dumps like that always have some older stuff mixed in - some may be 20 or 30 years older - from when people "cleaned house" and threw away stuff that had been sitting around for years. You just have to know what you are looking for. Here is a bottle dating guide off the net that may be helpful to you.

Turn of the century glass is still a good find George. Dig a little deeper, you might find some nice examples. Congrats on the buttons and silver.
