Another awesome hunt today!! First off I found my first walking liberty half dollar and it's got a date! 1941!

After that I found a Mercury dime and a bunch of flat buttons. Then I moved down the beach a little and got right back into the targets! I found the nicest large cent I've seen and one with two holes drilled in it, laying right on the surface, that my buddy said would have been used for a button!

Then just before we had to leave (damn work!) I found my first, beautiful three cent silver! 1853!

1A.jpg LC MIGHT HAVE BEEN A BUTTON - BUT BACK THEN - NOT ALL THEIR CLOTHES HAD POCKETS OR GOOD POCKETS AND THEY WOULD SEW COINS INSIDE THEIR VEST OR COAT - THAT IS WHY YOU SEE HOLES IN ALOT OF SPANISH SILVER AND IN EARLY SEATED 1/2 DIMES AND DIMES
LARGE CENT WAS ALOT LOT OF MONEY TO SOME BACK THEN - YOUR COULD GET LIKE 4 APPLES FOR ONE - TO WASTE AS A BUTTON ???
IF YOUR POOR - BAD CHOICE - IF YOUR WEALTHY YOU WOULDNT HAVE TO - BUT THATS MY THOUGHT

Great hunt. Funny how the large cent looks better than a 40's walker, and the trime looks like copper. Saltwater does strange things to coins. Very nice hunt.

Dude you are absolutely smoking it this fall. I'm not a beach guy at all, but I'm curious about something - do the coins accumulate at the surf line or up higher on the beach where the dunes erode onto the beach? It looks like they've seen salt but could also be just the overall "salty" environment there and not salt water. Amazing finds. It would be very difficult to go to work in the middle of that!

The finds that are higher up on the beach tend to be nicer than the ones down by the surf. I just look for low spots in the sand. Weather they're high on the beach or down by the surf. At high tide they're pretty much all covered in water though.

The trime really threw me for a loop! When I saw it I first thought it was copper too. Is this a 90% silver coin? I noticed that the Spanish coming out of here looks rough too.

if you look closely at that large cent with the holes in it - before it was holed..Im pretty sure (thought it could just be the photo I suppose) that it had already been modified to say something *interesting* - see if you can guess what Im talking about - Ive dug one myself actually

Not too sure what your talking about but if I were to look at the pic real hard maybe it says copy on the top right?? I'm at work so I don't have to coin in front of me
