To those not aware, it is a bronze "Roman Military Diploma" fragment. The diplomas were given to soldiers who had faithfully completed their military service and been discharged with full citizenship rights. I had read that after being verified and recorded as a citizen in the region the veteran chose to reside/retire to, the diplomas were often broken apart and fragments given to children/heirs.

I just keep staring at the great condition the brooch is in and the other finds, the face mount is also stunning. I really think that you have the Roman Nod, congrats!
Thanks to Plumbata and Crusader for enlightening the dummies like me with history and identification of some incredible pieces. I would imagine the diploma piece would be a great addition to any museum. Thank you for sharing your good fortune Obelix. Wonderful pics!
