God was on my side for this one guys. HOLY CRAP!!!!! A solid 97-99 on the vdi. Was expecting a hot rock, they give off those funky signals. But to my surprise, at this pounded out spot, with only 2 buttons found last time out here, and 4 today, I dig a 1770 silver 8 REALES. And it's completely intact with amazing detail!!!

I've been hunting this place since February and it's dried up a bit, but this find was just what I needed to NOT give up on it just yet! Thanks for looking!

Thats definitely the banner 8 reales. About as nice as they come. No way I'd send that in for a slabbing coffin. How else could you pluck it and let it spin down on the table?

It sure seems that you're looking like a lot brothers to folks out there.

No mistaking the silver though, congrats Matt it's one heck of a coin!

Matt, that is an incredible find. I would take it to a Coin Dealer to have it verified as Genuine.
Then I would gladly pay the expense of having it Graded and encapsulated by PCGS.
Don't tell anyone that it is a dug coin. Let them grade it without that information.

Looks genuine to me. I don't think there is any reason to think otherwise. Grading might more cost than its worth, plus, wouldn't you want to hold it whenever you wanted rather than looking at it through plastic? Just my opinion.

Fantastic find. Hit that site hard, when you find one Spanish silver, there are often times more hiding in the area.

Awesome big silver Matt! That sounds like a huge surprise too... whenever I get VDIs that high, its usually big deep iron... I don't know what I would do if that big piece of silver fell out of the hole. Hopefully one of these 8 reales makes it up top... putting my vote in now.
