1650's French Copper, and Cool Spot in the Woods

Went out with a young relative, Loaned him a ATP, and away we went.

Lucky him, first coin ever is a French Liard, sorry I never got a good close up, or a pic. of the other side, but it is a tad better than the one I got.

Only other finds were 4 matching crotal bells, probably off the same string, as all were found in a 4 to 5 foot circle. I got one, he got two close together, then I got another.

IMG_1715.JPG

My pics. aren't usually blurry, but that one is....

Anyway perhaps the best or at least coolest find is this strange place out in almost the middle of nowhere.

Big fireplace on the left side, and a bit of graffiti.

Compass on the floor

and pool out back

High temp today is below freezing, so that may have been the last. Teary smiley.

A 1650s French copper is a pretty darn good start.

Nice coin Rick, and in good shape for a dug copper. Hope the weather cooperates so you can make it back out again. I heard a while back that we were supposed to have a mild Dec, so maybe things will go your way. Good luck!

I don't think you need anymore proof than that it's all about the site and only a little about the detector and who is swinging it.

Congrats on the amazing hunt. Your buddies already in the 1600's club, imagine that. :occasion14: Heck I'd be elated just to squeak into the 1700s club someday by pulling a 1799 coin. :tongue3:

Yep. I've said many times anyone can "beep, and dig" as this fellow did with a minute of instruction, and about an hour of experience, but, finding a good place to do the beeping is the tough part, and gets tougher every year, as we know.

PS funny I thought I made this reply, but didn't appear.

That French coin find is spectacular, I hope that dude knows just how rare a find like that is!

I'm going to bet that place was a summer camp for kids.

Just what we need, another addict! Good on you Rick for taking the boy out and you didn't do too bad yourself. Don't forget to take the batteries out of the machines before you hang them up

Thanks Joey,

I'm very glad he did find something good enough to keep him interested, as he has a Jeep, and I don't drive...all good, although if I hadn't already had a coin as old from last year, I would have been, well, a little less happy (smiley). What I'd love to get is a Silver from that era...1650's. May go back to that site some day even though targets are very sparse.

Yes good tip, even "good" batteries can leak, happened to a nice Noma mini lantern I had, but managed to cobble up.
