I decided to call this site after its best find, the Votive Lion. Over the last 2 days of gridding the middle section where the most amount of Roman Pot came from we began to see the number of Roman Coins drop off. Actually on day 1 we hit the sweet spot right off the bat. As we covered the more obvious spot it must be an area the other detectorist has done, as we would have expected more coins with the lead & pot shards. Instead of Roman Silver we got a couple of hammered instead, so that was helpful. The next few sessions will be pretty tough in comparison but the whole area needs a once over.

9 hours in 2 days:

Tin of all the Roman Pot Shards, so far...
19 Roman Bronze Coins from yesterday
14 Roman Bronze Coins from today
Our largest & new type of Roman Key Handle
19th C Pewter Tea Cup
Half a Tudor Buckle
Mystery Roman Bronze thingy
2 Hammered, good one is a James I Halfgroat, 1603-04.

Notice no buttons in 3 days...:laughing7:

More good stuff! Lots of history there. I'd guess the James II 1/2 Groat is very uncommon since the type was only struck two years. It is in nice condition for a hammered coin too. I appreciate the time and energy you men put in to recovering these wonderful artifacts. How is the weather holding out for you there in the United Kingdom? It's getting cold here. A lot of MD'ers have wrapped it up for the year. Thank you for sharing your finds with us.
Best of Luck,
Phil

Nice Cru nice. Those hammered silvers look really really good to me... we do not have those in the US. Best of luck to you and dad! Congrats.

No the bronze ring is probably Roman as well, but the thingy, is the acorn looking thing with the rod through it, broken at both ends.

Nice going on the hammered, and that's one honking size key and would of loved to see the lock or gate. I miss the button pages already:unhappysmiley:

Locks were only on strong boxes in those days, not on any type of door.

Sorry you couldn't pull out any more Roman silver, but that James I is pretty sweet. Never seen one of those before.

Don't you think it's a pull/chest handle? The straight end could be broken off too. Maybe there was another decoration attached there.
