Excavated from the sand in South Brooklyn today at around 4pm:

It looks to be really old as it is made of wood and has metal straps that are secured with brass nails.

It also has a hole on the bottom that is plugged with lead, I initially thought there could be a compartment behind the lead seal but now I think the chest is actually just full of lead as it is very heavy for its size. It doesn't open, I think it is some sort of toy. Very cool little thing even if it's not full of treasure.

A late 19th century landfill which was topped off and sealed by the 1950's is very close to where I found this chest. Maybe it was thrown away into the landfill toward the beginning of the 20th century.

More pics of the chest:

Did I fool you into thinking it was a legit full-sized treasure chest? :laughing7:

First off cool find.
The very first pic. could have "fooled" people, but the next two closer pics. show the scale better.
If it were my find, I'd print the first pic. and keep it with the find.

Read the header then the who wrote the post, so knowing what luck you've had in the past with your scrounging adventures I figured you actually found something that would be interesting and in fact it is, congrats on the cool find.

If it's lined with lead, might contain kryptonite. Cool little find.
