Unfortunately I can't find The COA Club listed anymore.
and at least 3 C's come to mind. Centralia, Carsonville, Cressona
are all close enough & may have had a Pigeon Club at one time

and an 1884 Indian, not far from where I got the 1880's V last hunt here.

Jeff, you always post great photos, and those places do appear that they would have more secrets to unearth.

That Indian definitely looks better than my last. I believe you find more pigeon related items than anyone:laughing7:

At least it would appear that the soil is fairly kind to IH's. That one is in pretty fair shape!

I rather dig an IHP and have zero gas rebate, rather then a gas rebate and no IHP. You did great for only swinging for an hour. Happy Thanksgiving.

Nice Indian! I dig a lot of those pigeon bands up here in Lackawanna County. I enjoy finding them.

You can always mark the base of a tree trunk with chalk to keep track of where you searched. Congrats on the Indian Head Penny.

The first two pics. of the "woods" looks "too level" like it was a field at one point ? Mostly natural woods, at least around here are fairly rough, when I see level ground I considerate it a good sign.

Not much of a gas rebate (smiley) but at least you weren't skunked with a nice condition Indian penny. And a bird band too boot, which I don't think I've ever found. I say don't think because like most newbies I may have discarded one in ignorance in the earlier days.

Good luck out there.

I'm not sure what the Majority of these woods were.
may have been parking or just simply woods.
there is a large old fireplace and a foundation of a former building, most likely small concession or ticket stand.
within the woods, that were most likely out in the open at the turn of the 19th./20th. century,
but the woods slowly crept up and took them over.
the fireplace is now used to hide a Geo-Cache.
the woods also has signs of roads going through them and all meeting where the first picture was taken.
if you look close you can see where they wrapped a cable around the tree,
back when the tree was about at least half of it's size it is now. there are trash piles within the woods also. mostly newer trash. and very old ash piles would be my guess.
and a very long string of Heavy bare Copper wire. same type as the clippings I've been finding>
Not sure if it fell to the ground and got Swallowed by time. or if it was an underground line but most likely the former. as I doubt they would Bury 1 String of Copper wire and expect it to work.
word is the plans are to cut down the woods and make more room for parking

When Whadifind and I were there we were told the Ball Field is No longer used
so we can Hunt that.
Since then, They have started repairing it

DSCF0008.JPG

DSCF0007.JPG

My first Large Cent (1838) came out of that Field.
& if I remember correctly My First Silver Half.

DSCF0009.JPG

also If I remember correctly this park gave me my First Break into the 1800's
back in the late 70's early 80's . then sort of dried up as detectors became more sensitive. maybe not dried up, but the tiny trash
and high end detectors, make separating targets in some areas :BangHead:

these are the only areas off limits right now
due to fresh stubble, and fear of someone getting hurt

anyway Thanks ! & I know what you mean about discarding things early on.
I wonder how many cool Items I chucked in the 80's & 90's

Cool finds. I like the pigeon band.

I have a friend and she just bought a bunch of untrained homing pigeons. My older brother also used to raise and race them years ago.
