I was an absolutely beautiful warm sunny Thanksgiving day in NC.

Tnetter Todd Lipe tricked me into going hunting with him, instead of participating in the traditional family holiday celebration. And boy am I glad he did. He used the "guaranteed to find silver coins" trick on me, I fall for that every time.

We met up just before 8:00AM and headed to a little hick-town up the road. The place is rundown and has lots of vacant lots where houses used to stand. There are several blocks of just grass lots. The locals only dug the easy coins, so a good machine and a little patience can produce results.

Here is what I was able to find:
- Two stamped brass "relics". Please feel free to ID either, as they look like pieces of junk to me.
- Three wheat cents, the oldest was 1918.
- Three Mercury dimes... '29, '37 and '40. Something happened to the '40, I don't know what, but it is super thin and eaten up. It was covered with a soft gray "paste"... looked like caulk. When I removed it (brass brush), there was not much left of the coin. Any ideas what happened to this coin?

YTD silver coin count: 77

I hope that you had a happy Thanksgiving. Thanks for looking and best of luck on your hunts!

Good work buddy, I'm sure that twist of the arm with Todd gets you in the dog house every time. Your a relentless silver hound. You would love it in my lake!

I found a merc just recent, that was not in very good shape, it was almost looking like a counterfeit. I just figured the mix might of been a little off on that one? It was a 41 I think, the second number had a little of that cancer, might of been a 40. Funny how you found something so similar?
