I went out to our families old 1820 farm and hunted around with my new Minelab SE. I started playing around in all metal mode this week and I'm starting to get the knack of using it in this. I was working in an area not too far from the main house that was built about 1840 and got a strong tone. I dug down about 10" and at the bottom of the hole was sitting this 1839 large cent. I was so psyched! I didn't find anything much else to post except a heavy copper button with reeding like a coin (I thought it was another coin at first). The button has reeding on the edge like a coin - perhaps someone can tell me how old it is?

Thanks for all the great posts this weekend.

Nice find SF,
I found my first large cent this year...1845
I was very excited to see it pop out of the ground as you probably were.
