This cannon... SIMILIAR to yours...
Was found on the bottom of the ocean...

It is 300 years old.

Thank you for the info. I believe the site is colonial, I have found pewter spoons, tombac buttons and the only coin there so far is an 1808 large cent.

I've been looking at it again, & I hope your right, but lets do more research.

I still think 19th C, but with the new info above maybe its early instead of my hunch of late. Its such a great find its worthy of hours of research, as my hunch was based on the knowledge of only a few whole examples. Whole ones, specially dug are extremely rare. The iron wheels should help narrow the search.

One quick tip on dating wheeled cannon...
Less spokes in the wheels... Older they are.
And the older they are... The more hard pressed it will be to find a match.

These are VERY RARE to begin with...
EVEN the GOOD copies are extremely rare.

For example. That pic I posted is also a six spoke wheel... recently off a wreck overseas...
I have yet to find exact match on many / ANY of these types...
Less spokes... = Less cannon.
Looksie for yourself on searches... very very few 6'rs.

Like I said... This is either the real deal from period...
Or one heck of a killer copy.

ANOTHER "clue"... Is the "pinning"...
Re-pops will have screws.

Personally... I think it MAY be from period.
I would like to see other / iron objects from this exact spot first before deducing an age.

Above is another odd 18th C example.
I'm buying a book on these soon to learn more, but from what I see, this is what bothers me. Forgetting the carriage for now, the general shape is one they 'suggest' dates to 1680-1720:

However, there are far more well defined 'bands' around the cannon which jumped out at me straight away. (Plus the oversized hole) Now I've looked harder this is not repeated on 'any' other examples. This more well modelled piece just makes me think later, might still be wrong. Later doesn't mean re-pro.
I will update when I get the book.

PS. Just zoomed in & seen that extra banding in the middle, which makes yours more unusual. When I get the book they reference, I will see how 'similar' it is. The PAS is not as accurate as you would imagine, but pretty good.
