Honestly, when I got home I was feeling blue for only finding two flatties... That is until I cleaned them and read the back of one.... PRESIDENT ANDREW JACKSON 1829.
I've never seen a button like that, and after googling it, I found this:

The following Andrew Jackson Button was the first campaign button used in a Presidential Election.
The Jacksonian Democrats were keen on bringing their candidate to the attention of the voting
public and did not overlook the use of buttons as a means of advertising their candidate. Although
hampered by the current fashion, which permitted not the least ruffle on the fronts of buttons,
found a way of putting over their slogan on the back of the buttons. The buttons were stamped as
appears below "ANDREW JACKSON PRESIDENT 1829". This began the use of campaign buttons
in the promoting of candidates. --- Uniform Buttons by David F. Johnson

The Andrew Jackson Button is an extremely rare button with a RV of 250. This indicates a very
low number of such buttons known. These are shown in the Alberts Book as PC83.

Well done, Dave— an outstanding find!

The most recent edition (2004) of Hake's political buttons price guide lists it at $325, and you can bet it's better than that today!

The picture is not my button,

Nice find, I wish you could get a Good Pic of yours.
So it could go on the Banner.

Congrats Anyway.
JEFF

Thanks for the replies everyone! I'll have a picture tonight tonight. My scanner is down due to Vista not playing right with it, and my camera just doesn't do close ups very well. I'm going to stop by a camera shop and have them take a few pics for me.

Best button I have ever found! Its funny, I dug it and thought it was just another flat button. It sat in my treasure pouch for 2 or 3 days before I rinsed the dirt off of it... Imagine my surprise!

Awesome! We gotta see the pic of your button...and take a picture of that puppy so that it can go on the banner. Your find is just as valuable as a lower grade gold coin! Nice find.

Re: EXTREMELY RARE BUTTON FIND! YIPPEE!!

Dave, Congrats on an excellent button find. The Political buttons are a truly historic button to find and I am so glad to see another one posted.

I found and posted on this forum two years ago this month a Jackson Victory button, and I believe your Jackson button is the first one I have seen posted on this forum since then. I have seen others posted elsewhere, so they are out there. :)

Mine was found in June 2005 in a fertilized field so the condition is not as good as I would have liked if it had been found at one of my wooded sites, but still it is not too bad of shape.

Again, congrats on a super button find.....
