Very first coin of the year is 1700's !!!

That stretch of unusually warm January weather here in New England created an opportunity for my first hunt of 2016. The very first coin I dug this year was a 1700's King George II Halfpenny. The back is toasted but it is soaking and I will hope to get a date. Also, managed two Colonial dandy buttons (one with shank), a thimble and a musket ball.

Nice old copper find! :occasion14:

Interestingly, last Sunday (during the beautiful weather) I found an old KG with the obverse in great detailed condition, but the reverse in poor condition. You never know!

Great copper but that buckle is a very early one. You're in a nice spot

There is plenty of detail left on the reverse. You need to clean that puppy up and show us a date. Hogge

Trying. It's been soaking for a week in mineral oil and I'm making no headway on it. That crust is on there like cement. :cussing:
