I went back to the old cellar hole where the owner told me I wouldn't find anything. This spot was where I found that patriotic button and fatty IHC. I remembered I didn't work real hard inside the cellar hole, I had hit the peripheral of that spot more. I believe the ring I found is really a new modern ring? I'm not really sure what it is made of? a magnet sticks to it. It rang high and came out of the hole pretty clean. I found some modern coins (70's-81) right with it. I thought the design looked old, but not knowing what the metal it is made of and no marks on it, I'm thinking "homemade"?
Enjoy the pix, I found the doorknob at a different cellar hole yesterday.

This is what it looked like coming out of the ground.

are there any markings on the band? Last name begins with W...wonder if you can tie it back to anyone. Interesting that a magnet sticks to it...maybe stainless? I'm not really sure. I found a "nickel silver" ring last year, but I never checked if it was magnetic.

Don't you hate that feeling when you realize it probably isn't silver? Good looking place Brad.

Congrats on pulling that ring Brad, it looks to have save the day. That place just has to have more goodies from looking at the targets you dug.

True stainless is not magnetic.
There is not a mark on it anywhere.
I'm going to take it to the jeweler then the owner, maybe he lost it?

Yep, when I got in my car and looked with my loop, I still thought it was silver, lol
Still a mystery, what kind of metal does not rust and is magnetic?

Congrats on pulling that ring Brad, it looks to have save the day. That place just has to have more goodies from looking at the targets you dug.
I know one thing, the owner has to be right about his relatives hunting it hard. I wish I knew what they found, lol.

Congrats on the ring
Thanks trapper! :-)

400 grade stainless is magnetic.
I think this ring is homemade?

Nice digs Brad. You know, I've dug several 100% nickel coins before and they had the exact patina and color as that ring. Nice pull

The owners last name begins with a P. I don't think nickel is magnetic. I love finding rings and mysteries!

Looks great to me! Very nice ring! :treasurechest::thumbsup:

I didn't bother using my testing kit, I knew it wasn't silver as soon as it stuck to the magnet.
Thanks for the reply, I hope my roll continues with a capped bust silver!
