Some of you may have seen my post yesterday on the lucky token and decorative mystery object I dug so the title of this thread will make perfect sense. This afternoon we went out to hunt a site that really didn't hold a ton of promise but it was a site I had asked permission to hunt which made my find even more special as my better half is usually the one who does major research for me to just show up with a smile and my Minelab 505 X-Terra ready to dig. I had dug three or four not so good signals and pulled out trashy pot metal and iron what's-it's, thinking we had one of our usual afternoons of Spring cleaning a homeowner's yard ahead of us. Got a wonderful nice toned signal, dug a plug about 4-6 inches deep and saw that beautiful green color we all know and love. I had unearthed a Confederate Army of Tennessee belt buckle! Some sources call it a clipped corner and indicate it was worn by Confedrate Calvary. The buckle was not available until 1863, which makes it perfect for the Battle of Nashville which was in December 1864. It also most likely means the soldier who wore it was involved in the Atlanta campaign, Battles of Spring Hill and Franklin and Nashville where he lost it.

You always work hard for your finds and no exception here. I am jealous and have yet to put one in my pouch. I am sure I have been over many but are 3 feet deep or under the buildings here. It is a beautiful and desirable style. Congratulations to you.

Wow holy Smokes!!!

Way rarer that the U.S. Buckles, this CS is a rare find, and the condition is phenomenal. The hooks are still (mostly) there and very solid.

Banner all the way there and back!!

Congrats Coily!!

Super recovery and certainly a banner-worthy one. I look forward to reading more about its rarity and value.

Congrats on a really really nice find. And it is your second Confederate plate too. WOW.

How many of these does your husband have? I can only assume that he has several...

Best of luck to the both of you, and banner vote entered.

Way to go on such an amazing piece of Civil War history! You sure have a knack for finding plates! Did y'all find any other CW relics in the area? Congrats again!

Ditto! I'm in awe . . .

Woohoo CG! Couldn't have happened to a more deserving digger. If you keep this up, your husband is going to want you to do all the tedious work of research and permission seeking!:tongue3: I reserve my banner votes usually but you are getting one from me. No brainer. :notworthy:

Not even a bullet which makes it even more amazing of a find. It was super trashy yard but we have the attitude that at least we got out and got some fresh air.

Thanks Tom. My husband has found a US breastplate, a US oval belt buckle, a rectangular eagle sword buckle that at one time had a silver wreath that the ground disintegrated, a batwing keeper and various and sundry relics but no CS buckles. He still loves me anyway!
