8th Regiment of foot box plate

i know its hard to see and i could be way off but its my best guess, im also looking at the pics on a 55in screen, I see 8reg and they were in the exact area were it was found. i know it will probably be next to impossible to get confirmation because its lightly engraved and there aren't really any other similar examples. just curious to see what u guys think. thanks for looking 8reg.JPG P1040681.JPG P1040687.JPG P1040686.JPG

Try something for contrast like a pencil lead and back away from the item for a longer range picture. Is it a silver face with no back?

Looks like that's what's scratched on it, but it would not standard military issue. Somebody's replacement button, but nice nevertheless.

The regimental buttons din't normally have "reg" on them, just the number. Also the number would have been larger so I don't think that's what it is. Still a nice find though.

The US War of 1812 buttons did often have "Reg" or "Regt" on them.

Almost looks like it starts with a "J" and ends in "g". There is some nice decorative hand engraving just below it. May never solve the mystery but it is fun to speculate.
