This one rang out loud and clear! I was a bit disappointed when I found it was a fishing weight, but, once I flipped it over, I saw a nice round disc encrusted to one side. I couldn't tell if it was new or old, so, I took a before photo and then soaked it in some vinegar for a little while. Once some of the crust dissolved, I was able to clean off a bit and see that it was a 1945 Washington Quarter. I think I'll leave it this way and not totally clean it off. Looks kinda cool to me. Here's the before and after pics. What do you think?

I agree with the other boys, that's a sweet find. I would leave it just like it is.

Congrats my man!

Just an amazing piece. It presents the silver quarter well, and will stand up on a shelf or, as others have said, a paper weight!

I love when posts like this come up. Congrats on a terrific recovery. Its great that the quarter was silver and not a decayed piece of clad.

Hi; That is AWESOME. I love it. I've been digging for 47 years and I have never seen anything like that and I live in Boston Harbor. !!!! I wonder if there is a Special Finds Forum here. That is way to cool. It would have my vote for sure. PEACE:RONB :headbang:

Cool find, a toothed screamer. How often do you see one of those?

I'd soak it in olive oil.
I'd be afraid of softening the encrustation and having the quarter fall off if I did that. Thanks everyone!
