Chinese coin today, help please. solved

Found this coin today at a salt water beach nearby. My first Chinese coin, not real deep but we had a storm not long ago during high tide so I have all new targets. Can anybody date this? or any info? please and thank you.

Hey no problem. I found that site while researching a Chinese coin I found a few years ago. Turned out it was Sheng Tsu, 1661-1722, definitely my oldest find here on the prairies lol. I heard that the Chinese would use the coins for centuries, and even sew one into a clothing garment for good luck.

Congrats on your oldest coin!

they would make those by the billions and fill barrels with them... use them for years - you could have a 300 yr old coin that because of the surplus of them was not pulled from their stockpile until the 1800s
they were brought over in the 1800s with chineese laborers and used amongst themselves in their work camps (railroads etc)and make shift towns - eventually when they started to earn US coins - these were no longer accepted even among each other and were sold and traded as good luck pieces and for jewelry and artwork -

Thanks for the info Casper, That answers my how question, My area of the pacific northwest (north Puget Sound )didn't get its very first settler until 1850 but quickly turned into a big log boom area. It makes sense now. Thank You

Emperor JEN TSUNG
AD 1796-1820

Old post but thought I would properly ID this coin and correct it for future search records. This coin is NOT from Jen Tsung's Song dynasty. It's a Qing Dynasty coin.

Simplified characters: 嘉庆通宝
Traditional characters: 嘉慶通寶
Pinyin Jiāqìng tongbao (the modern standard)
Wade–Giles: Chia1-ch'ing4 (old and should be obsolete romanization)
Personal name Yongyan (pinyin)

Reign date (13 November 1760 – 2 September 1820)

Below is info on Jen Tsung of Song Dynasty (Wade-Giles obsolete name translation)
pinyin: Renzong.
