These were found in a basement of an old Victorian home in the Sacramento area. Anyone know what they are? 13226671_10206799973938495_3184209882860737417_n.jpg 13238982_10206799965418282_6099119685335834300_n.jpg 13239366_10206799966618312_7048112931098315519_n.jpg 13240506_10206799967538335_6658663745140086207_n.jpg

No, it has some kind of a pulley or something on the end. They are extremely heavy.

Looks like it might have been used for a wall-mount light or clock - something where whatever was mounted had to be easily accessible. Could have been a clock, gas lights, oil lights, etc.

Being found in a basement, there might also have been an old hand-dug well, and maybe this was mounted in a way to allow for raising/lowering the bucket.

Would be nice to see what's in between the two sides, where it looks like a smaller pin is - in the middle of the swirl design. Could there have been another pulley on the inside? Is there still one there?

Are there any areas with noticeable wear? Try to figure in what position it could have been mounted so as to withstand the forces being placed upon it. I should have looked at this thread earlier - too tired to mentally flip it around for different views.

Seeing that it is cast iron, . . i would say it mounted out side on a building for a sign or a light, it is a piece that was made to "be seen" because of its ornate pattern, . The long piece looks to be " NOT- related, probably a piece of outside eve or roof edge building trim.

Thank you for all the input. I tend to agree these were outside. One person suggested a clothline. The pulley seems to also be a separator for possibly two ropes or straps. I also agree the long piece is likely not related to the other pieces. Yes, there is a pin in the middle of the swirl, however it doesn't have a groove in the middle like a pulley. They are a mystery.

Overkill for a clothesline, like using a bulldozer to plant your tomatoes.

I think might be equipment for a dumb-waiter. They used ropes & pulleys to move things from one floor to another in larger houses.

I had thought about that as well, but don't have a clue about them. ...Might be why this was in a basement?

Haha I have to agree, but no one seems to have any real ideas.

If that really is a pulley on the end, I would say that 2 of something went through it. For some reason I'm thinking it has something to do with stage curtains in a theater.
