Old home site yields a pair of late 1800's General Service buttons

Was looking for a old homesite that may have had a old church nearby. Way out in the woods. Found this site before I ever got near the right area. Undergrowth is too high for proper detecting, but I wondered around and picked a few things. Part of a harmonica reed, aluminum thimble, couple of wick assemblies to coal oil lamps. Found these two buttons about 8-10 feet apart. Both have 50-75% gilt, although the pics don't look it, and appear to be Horstmann backstamps (1 for sure). I didn't last out there long. Tough detecting and soaked with sweat. Be a good one to hit again in the winter time. Also found all or parts of 4 aluminum arrows. On a side note, watch out for the old wells in the undergrowth. I was watching and still stepped in this one before I saw it. Fortunately, and the reason I didn't see it, was that it had been filled to a couple of inches of the rim. Happy hunting!

Thanks for the heads up on keeping your head down. Those well holes can twist ankles or worse.
Congrats on the buttons

Nice buttons!! My best find to date was found by accident going from point A to point B. You just never know. Always keep eyes open and the coil on the ground. Thanks for sharing [emoji106]
