Posting two short hunts, Thursday evening got out for an hour and a half and Saturday with some friends for a few hours.

Snake #1: Walking down to a spot I wanted to metal detect I spotted this three-foot gorgeous Milk snake, at first I thought it might be a Copperhead but realized what it was and gently persuaded it to slither off the path. Where I detected the only coin target I recovered ended up being a 1957 silver Washington quarter, not bad.

Snake #2: went detecting with Don-in-Brewster and friends for about three hours in the hot humid weather. I managed to uncover a really awesome silver snake ring, well I think it's awesome LOL The other keeper is a cool WWI Uniform button manufactured by ART METAL WORKS INC -NEWARK, N.J approximately 1900 to 1930. I also included some photos of what I think is some type of worn out token. Hard to make out writing on it on one side, maybe ROS? Can't read the small letters.

Enjoy the photos and HH

Congrats on the silver and buttons,

It's a shame how many people kill those snakes around here, confusing them with copperheads, just have to take the time out to observe them and I'm no expert. Thanks for reply

Hey brother, nice digs. I tend to think that token is a civil war token/store card. Outlawed in 1864, IHP sized tokens are most commonly from years 1863/1864. There were a bunch afterward, but if you're looking for an ID start your search there.

You're spot on with the button ID. Congrats man

Thanks bro, I will take some time this week to see how many letters I can decipher off it. It's extremely worn thin but should be fun, I'll take your advice. Thanks for replying.

Like the 57 SLQ best & "CONGRATS" on all your finds - thanks for sharing your pictures and story. I wish you many more great finds while out dirt fishing and don't get snake bit.

if you smell cucumbers---that would be a copperhead (they stink with no warning rattle)---move away slowly

The snake ring looks like it may have had some kind of colored stones for eyes. The milk snake is the find that would make my day. Thanks for being snake informed.
