We returned to the ploughed field that I fluked the H8 Groat from. Its amazing that we gridded 3 acres of land across the area the Groat came from & not one hammered! Sometimes my wandering is inspired!
Our prediction today on this low priority land was as follows;
Cru - 2 Scrappies, 1 hammered.
Cru'dad - 1 Scrappy, 1 hammered.
Both wrong on the hammered but Cru'dad won by getting the only scrappy of the day, I tried hard to get another...lol
This was the take for 4.5 hours gridding;

1 Scrappy
17th C Button
50 Cal
Cauldron Foot
Medieval Iron Spur bit
Gunter Chain Measuring marker (No.4) - Been awhile since I've had one
Medieval Lead Spindle Whorl
Medieval Strap-end
1844 Sixpence
Late Medieval Dagger Quillon - First one of this type:headbang:

Great quillion. That's one of my favourite finds of yours lately. Interesting type though. In addition to being used as a guard, do you think served any other purpose such as striking an opponent?

Great show

I'm not very knowledgeable with weapons (bits of) because we so rarely find them. I also assumed the guard bit myself & thought it would give a more sturdy/forceful stab.

I spelt it wrong in the title but the dagger quillon went between the blade & the handle to stop the hand sliding up the blade & to act as a bit of a guard.

...followed by Cru taking two Advil. That's an amazing amount of buttons in such a short time, and a lot of digging.

I think it demonstrates how quick I can be.:thumbsup: I was basically putting 1 object (button/trash/find) in my pouch every single minute of the 4 hours.
That's why I laugh a little at the low & slow mantra, when I'm fast & furious...(although I may slow up sometimes).
No need for advil, its mostly my normal speed.

Here this piece is called "Parierstange" What simply means (cross)guard, but also parry(bar), so use was also to parry the enemys weapon.
