I got out early for 4hrs yesterday morning before the heat of the day set in... man is it ever dry here in Ontario! :tongue3: This park is directly across the street for a 1957 high school I detected last weekend, where unfortunately I only found modern coins. I was hoping for some silver coinage here, but only managed to pop a small silver ring. I think I like the the 1950's 'Zurn Hydrant Key'. My only wish was that the lighter had been complete, I even gridded the area to find the body of it. The Zippo Company in Pennsylvania still offers a lifetime refurbishment for any original Zippo lighter made in either the USA or Canada. I had two of the lighters restored by them that I found a couple of years ago... they're really great people to deal with too!The dry ground here is definitely making finding the deep stuff more of a challenge, but that's half the fun right! I took a picture of the earring as it hit in the silver range, but it's not marked. :icon_scratch:

I'll probably tumble the metal 'Deco Style' light switch plate and then paint it white and install it in my c.1925 house.

Thanks for looking and keep cool man, 8-)
Dave

Congrats on your finds! And thanks for the Zippo tip. I have found and kept a couple, but had never thought about checking to see if they could be repaired or restored.

They will repair Zippo's not restore them. They won't plate them just get them working. I have found over 50. Sold a bunch, rest are in a drawer hibernating.

Thanks very much for your post and for your interest MsBB! :hello:
I don't think the earring I found is silver, there's no sign of corrosion, but when I look at it under my loop I can see a 'silver wash' of some type.

Hope you're having a great year,
Dave

Thanks for your post Tommy, see above for the Zippo MFG. Co. contact information. :icon_thumright:

Like the Zurn Hydrant Key... would make a coolio paper weight.

Nice little hunt... well done.

I too have been trying to figure out what to do with it, but it's not as heavy as it looks.
Feels like it's made of either zinc or some type of white metal. :icon_scratch:
Dave

They will repair Zippo's not restore them. They won't plate them just get them working. I have found over 50. Sold a bunch, rest are in a drawer hibernating.

As you well know some of these Zippo lighters are very collectible and the older examples are worth some serious money... at least $5 each anyway! :laughing7:
It's true though, they won't do any work to the lighters body, they just replace the inner workings with an authentic Zippo insert.
Dave

Very pretty ring! :treasurechest::icon_thumleft:
Thank you Sir! :occasion14:

Great photos and finds! Nice to see you got out to swing, best wishes, Herbie.

Thanks for your post Dave!
As you well know, this is the type of detecting us 'farm field' guys are relegated to to get our 'detecting fix' until the crops are off the fields! :laughing7:

Take care buddy,
Dave
