After studying the 1873 map of my area I pinpointed a homestead which is no longer standing. It is now a hay field and the hay was cut yesterday. I had an hour after supper so off I went. The first thing I dug was an 1858 Large Cent. This is the first year that the large cents saw circulation. The bonus is it is in half decent condition. Usually the coins of this vintage in my area are nothing but copper discs but this 1858 is very readable. This is the best LC that I have found thus far. The condition is far better than the pics. I also dug the harness buckle and the bell. The bell if from a very old telephone. Thanks for looking.

Sorry for the substandard pics...i am not using my own camera.

Terrific Large Cent. The pictures are fine, we should even be able to identify you from your fingerprints which show up very well. ;D

Crusader, it's a copper coin. This is the 1st official Canadian copper coin issue. The 1858 issue was only 421,000. The following year the issue was 10,000,000 cents. This is the rarest and most valuable non-variant Canadian cent. I'm going to keep it! Thanks for looking!

Re: Rare Canadian Large Cent

Here are a couple better pics of the 1858 LC. My Charlton shows a value of at least $55.00 for a "G" grade.
