Haven't posted for a bit as I have a computer problem and it's a pain to post from my tablet. Got out last Saturday to a favorite park. Didn't find much, but then again, it depends on your perspective. Found 2 Indians including a nice old 1864. Also found 2 toasted shield nickels and a piece of a small silver spoon or fork. An Indian or shield nickel is probably on a lot of bucket lists, but I've found plenty of both. On Ann earlier visit to this park I had also pulled a few Indians in addition to a nice Barber dime and a couple of shield nickels. Again, bucket list items for many. It's probably my 4th or 5th 2 cent piece out of this park and the second this year.

The SLQ came out of the same hole as the nicer Merc at another old park I've been hunting for more than 35 years. Still stuff three.

The 1837 hard times token, my first, came from a door knock.

What checked one off my bucket list is the 1759 pistareen I found on Sunday. A pistareen is an earlier design of the 2 reales. If I have a shot at the banner, the pistareen might be it. Had been driving down the road and spotted a small spot of woods that looked interesting. In addition to the oistareen I also pulled a merc and roosie. You just never know.

Spectacular coin. Congrats on a really nice find. I see them regularly in my dreams, but not so regularly in my holes!

Best of luck to you sir.

Way to eye those little hot spots, killer finds. Thanks for taking the time to share with us.

The 1759 pistareen is in outstanding condition and banner worthy, imo.

Nice Cross Pistareen Don. That is actually the latest date I have seen on one of those. Usually we find cut pieces of these coins which were minted in Spain and were debased silver. They traded at 20 cents rather than the 25 cents of a Spanish New World mint 2 reale. There is great information on them in this article, which I have known about for a long time but only recently read in it's entirety. http://numismatics.org/wikiuploads/CNL/Pistareens.pdf In reading it I came to find out that this 2 reale that my brother found with me this spring was also a pistareen...known as a head pistareen, since it has the portrait on it. It was also minted in Spain in the Seville mint and traded at 20 cents rather than 25.

Then I guess this one is also a pistareen. It's also from the Seville mint. Found it about 2 years ago. Always just thought of it as a 2 real.

Incredible coins Don,
Why are you so modest??
I would order a case of Adult Diapers if I was constantly finding coins like those.
Congratulations and Banner

Yeah, the Indians, shield nickels, Barber and 2 cent piece came out of the same park as the sovereign.
