Well I got out for about 30 minutes before dinner tonight and got access to a yard that was part of a Revolutionary War battle. I was detecting and got a nice sounding target on the AT pro and popped this 1/2 moidore weight out! I thought it was one of those fat Indian head pennies but I saw the cross and knew it was older! Now it's time to search for the coins they were weighing haha. Enjoy the pictures and happy hunting!

Thanks! How early would you say?

These British Coin Weights were used to weigh Portuguese Gold Coins from the early 1700s - 1770s.

Yours looks like the;
I
MOIDORE
W
Circa 22mm?

Depending on the weight it was for;

Brazil 20000 Reis - 53.6g
8 Escudos - 28.64
Brazil 10000 Reis - 26.8g
4 Escudos - 14.32g
4000 Reis - 10.76g

If its a smaller denomination then they circulated in the 1750-70s;
1.78g - 7.16g

NB, yours will have lost some weight, so add about 10%.
