After having found my first state copper even the Heat could not keep me away from going back today. Bright and early after my night shift I made a beeline back to the spot where I found the copper. I found the copper in the last 5 minutes of my hunt and had to leave right away. So I wanted to check around for anything I missed. Wound up with a bunch of interesting buttons well one of them is rather interesting anyway I guess the rest are standard fare for an old site. The one that looks like a little hat I have never seen a button like this before. I think it might be Colonial but I am just not sure. It definitely has a broken off Shank that you can see the remnants of. It kind of looks like it might have been a turret Shank but it is hard to tell. it really looks like there are letters around the outside on the front but I cannot make anything out it might just be a design. But whenever I was cleaning it I could swear it said long live the president LOL. I would be interested to know if anyone else has ever found a button like this strange little hat. And does anyone think it might be Colonial? Thanks for looking and thanks in advance for any opinion on the mystery button.

Nice hunt. I have also done well on embankments at colonial sites for some reason.
The "hat" button is interesting. I was thinking maybe a decorative harness or bridle mount that went on leather, but if Cru says he's seen buttons like that then that settles it for me. Maybe it had one of those long "cotter pin" like shanks that we see on conical buttons like this one.

Congrats on some nice buttons! I've seen the hat button before, but never found one. You've got some nice gold gilt on the back of one of them, which is really cool. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks I had been kind of avoiding it because of the steepness but also because of my past experience with the embankments being the place where they the place where they threw 500 broken spoon handles over the years. I did notice a lot of glass in one spot also had some bricks whatnot I am figuring it is the dump. If I ever get motivated to dig after things I did not detect with a detector I know where there is a ton of privies and dumps.

Digging a privy is a two man job. Let me know if you need any help.

Looks like a great spot! [emoji106]

Thank you it definitely is it's going to be a long time waiting until spring whenever the weeds are smashed down from the winter snow. There is a ton of real estate that was too over grown to even attempt.
