It has been very very hot and humid in NC. I headed out about 7:00AM both weekend days, and was forced home by lunch time.

It is too dry to dig in most places, however, I was able to locate a couple of places where the holes will not cause an eye sore. The finds were meager, the highlight for me was a '43 quarter, I was glad to get George out of that hot dirt! The coin was co-located with a piece of trash (About 2" apart, 4" down), the Deus was able to give two tones, which alerted me to the shiny rascal.

I also dug an aluminum disc, that appears someone "practiced" on with some punches. It says "Williams" on it. Maybe a home made ID tag. If you can make something out it, let me know.

EDIT: P@tch ID'd this as a WW1 dog tag!

Be careful on your hunts, it's hot, drink lots of water, and thanks for looking!

Nice silver quarter man. Yeah it's brutally hot and humid in Raleigh too. The soil is hard and dry. We got 4 inches if rain while I was on vacation and not a drop since I've been back.

Hope you guys are doing well

ATW, great scores, congrats on the silver. The prize may be thea WW1 era dog tag. I see the top word as "reverse" D, followed by A I Y, then the number in the middle, USA, and WILLIAMS on the bottom. The service number may be researchable through military websites, and it would be a FANTASTIC return to a decendant of the soldier. Sub 8-)

NOTE: The service number in the middle of the tag reads, " 40747 3 (maybe 8) and possibly "1" stamped over "5" This stamp-over may be accidental or intentional, so try the number in different configurations.

Congratulations on the silver. Surprised you were able to make it to lunch. I lived in Carolina for over twenty years and know how the heat and humidity are there, especially in the flatlands.

Very interesting that it is a dog tag. I never suspected that. I did notice the square thing with the bar in the middle. If it is lead it is a hem weight for drapes or very old dresses. However, I have found only round ones. A square one is new to me. Congrats on the silver and the old finds.

Congrats on the silver George and especially the very cool WWI tag!

I'll yell you, I would much rather sweat and melt with my detector in my hand than sweat and melt at work all day. Blech, today was brutal with a capital B.
